Haneen Martin :: This Isn't What I Wanted
20 March :: 20 April

“This isn’t what I wanted” is a collection of sculptures and intaglio prints born from a moment of absolute certainty that the path I was on was totally and utterly wrong.
Over the course of an exploration spurred on by an encouraging subject, my own ideas and building designs became an abstract concept that did not need to abide by any technicalities or rules, bar my own. The process of taking a concept from my studies, extracting and extrapolating the line work and shadows cast by my sculptures provided a sense of freedom and sent me on another path, far far away.

Gemma Mickan :: Portraits
24 April :: 19 May
“He would like, as far as he can, to get away from the body and turn to the soul.”
- Socrates

The human figure is a beautiful topic of art. Though to some it can seem confronting, i think that's what art is really all about.

During the last few months I have started to look at the way artistic style can effect the overall feel and meaning of an artwork. With simple changes in media and style, the body can take on so many different connotations and metaphors, be it positive or negative.

This series of charcoal and pastel portraits have come from my stylistic experimentation.

May Meeting of the Feminist Reading Group
1 May :: 6:30pm
Well, feminist readers, get ready to dive into a bathtub of crazysauce, because this month, we're reading Going Rogue, the political memoir of Sarah Palin. Who is she (or at least, who does her ghost writer say she is) and what does her success say about women in modern political life?
* The Adelaide Feminist Reading Group meets every month, on the first Wednesday of the month. Join their facebook group here for more updates.

Anthonie Tonnon (NZ) & Banjo Jackson
Saturday 4 MayDoors open 7:30pmAnthonie Tonnon plays a one-off show in Adelaide at The Reading Room on Saturday, May 4, with Banjo Jackson.
After releasing two EPs and an album with the band Tono and the Finance Company, being handpicked by Beirut to open their New Zealand shows, and touring 2012's Up Here For Dancing through the US as a solo act, the Dunedin raised, Auckland based songwriter started work on an album under his own name.
In his new shows, Anthonie Tonnon enlists the dramatic, the dreamlike, and the surreal alongside everyday characters: would-be local politicians, depressed surgeons, respected cocaine dealers. His solo set puts his narratives, and the melodies that carry and divert them, to the front of minimal arrangements on guitar and keyboard.
